ABOUT

MISSION

My mission is to nurture the growth of all students by building social/emotional skills, assisting academic goal-setting, and bringing awareness of college and career pathways. The counseling program will help students be successful lifelong learners and problem solvers.

VISION

All students at St. Mark’s School are provided a comprehensive counseling program that is developmentally appropriate and contributes to the social-emotional, academic, and college and career domains. The counseling program will facilitate a partnership between school, family, and community to best help our students. Through self-directed personal growth, students will reach their potential to be productive citizens, resilient, and lifelong learners.

CORE BELIEFS

The School Counselor believes:

  • All students deserve to receive counseling services as needed.

  • A safe and respectful school environment will ensure optimal student achievement.

  • School counseling programs should be student centered.

  • School counselors are leaders, advocates, and collaborators.  They strive to create equitable access to counseling services, which include direct and indirect services, a rigorous curriculum, and access to outside resources.

  • A comprehensive school counseling program is planned, managed, and delivered by licensed school counselors who adhere to the ACA and ASCA Ethical Standards for Professional School Counselors.

  • Collection of and analyzing data is essential for school counselors to implement an effective program that will promote student learning and achievement.

  • An effective school counseling program will address the social-emotional, academic, and college and career readiness development for all students.

  • Collaboration with teachers, administrators, parents, and community members is a vital part of a school counseling program – it helps foster positive school climate and facilitates student learning and achievement.

  • Counselors must be culturally competent and advocate for acceptance of diversity.
